Board Member Qualifications and Expectations

  • Serve a two-year term (additional terms can be held through member election, not exceeding 6 consecutive years for any single position)
  • Maintain active membership of CHEC with membership dues paid in full
  • Support the mission, goals, and values of the consortium
  • Attend monthly Board meetings scheduled for the third Monday from 1:00 to 2:15 pm (CST)
  • Engage with the strategic priorities of CHEC (Conference Planning, Professional Development, Member Engagement, etc.)

Vacant Positions and Role Responsibilities

Elected to serve a 2-year term.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensures the continuation of the organization and develops procedures to support the development of the consortium.
  2. Creates and develops surveys, documents, and reports as needed. 
  3. Takes attendance at each Executive Board meeting.
  4. Takes notes during Executive Board meetings and sends a summary with to-do items to all board members and committee chairs.
  5. Develops, organizes, and leads efforts to select the host institution for the in person conference every other year.
  6. Temporarily serves as the President in the event that the current president cannot fulfill their duties. 
  7. Coordinates yearly reports from committee chairs and executive board members. 

Elected to serve a 2-year term.

Responsibilities:

  1. Works closely with the Executive Board to establish a budget once per year, at the end of the FY and presented at the Annual CHEC Conference Business meeting. 
  2. Provides quarterly reports and updates to the Executive Board on the financial status of the organization and as requested. 
  3. Works closely with the Conference Representatives to ensure compliance with funding goals, requirements, and management of funds.
    1. Develops sponsorship fundraising goals for annual conference
  4. Works closely with the Vice President of Membership to set and reach membership and financial goals.
  5. Creates guidelines for partnerships, consulting practices, and sponsorships. 
  6. Creates and implements a budget request process for financial support for CHEC events and initiatives.
    1. Budget Requests involve any purchase for the organization over $250
    2. Detailed description of purchase including: what, why, and how purchase supports organizational values brought forward to the Board for a vote. 
    3. All budget requests should be sent to the VP of Fiscal Oversight at least one week in advance
  7. Submits an end of year report to the Vice President of Operations.

Elected to serve a 2-year term.

Responsibilities:

  1. Establishes research and assessment projects to advance and inform the practice of coaching within higher education. 
  2. Recognizes the interdependence of research and practice.
  3. Engages with the theory and body of literature within the coaching field and related disciplines.
  4. Suggests outcomes for both students and coaches and proposes measures of effective evaluation. 
  5. Provides guidance on evidence-based research design to community members. Host at least 1 training/webinar for the consortium per year, which can be in partnership with other committees.
  6. Provides a 1-page summary to highlight growth and accomplishments of committee at end of year (June)

Elected to serve for a 2-year term.

Responsibilities:
1. The governance of the Consortium. 

2.Works with the Board Members to identify important issues and topics vital to the role of academic coaches in higher education. 
3. Supports special projects such as creating a marketing material, supporting the virtual conference committee, and other duties as assigned. 
4. Assists in the planning, facilitation, and participation of CHEC meetings, events, and determining and coordinating projects throughout the year. 
5. Additional roles and responsibilities of each member-at-large shall be determined by the Executive Board and agreed upon by each member. 
6. Supports the organization of details and content for the membership consortium, as well as additional CHEC sponsored events.
7. Acts as a voting member of the Executive Board to further the mission of CHEC and expand its influence.

Election Information

As we grow as an association, our leadership should continue to represent our membership. In hosting our inaugural election to select our next group of leaders, we ensure that the priorities and needs of the membership are met through these next leaders. All CHEC members are eligible to vote in the Executive Board election. Self-nominations and nominations of fellow CHEC members should also be completed through the form. Those nominated by someone else will be contacted by CHEC staff and prompted to complete the nomination form within 10 business days of notification. Nominate

August 29– Deadline for remaining candidates to complete self-nomination.

September 2-16– Communication of candidate platform statements to membership and open online voting for 10 business days.

September 22-30
Tally results of vote, review with Executive Board leadership, contact candidates & announce new Board members to CHEC membership 
Conduct orientation for new Board members 

October 1
