Perspectives from Graduate Peer Coaches : A Panel Discussion

INSTITUTION: Princeton University
LEAD PRESENTER: Laura Murray
CO-PRESENTER: John Schulz
SESSION DESCRIPTION: As academic life and learning coaching in higher education becomes more common, there remain two populations’ perspectives not often considered: graduate students and coaches themselves. In this panel discussion we’ll attempt to address this gap in knowledge by facilitating a panel discussion with four current graduate students who work as peer coaches at their shared institution. These experts will share insights and lived experiences regarding working with peers across disciplines to support learning and thriving among grad students. In addition, the panelists will also describe how their training and coaching has benefited them in myriad and surprising ways, with coaching skills and strategies informing their approaches to mentoring and scholarship both within and beyond the academy.
